Dear Greene Families,

This year has officially ended, and the front office is closed for the summer. I want to thank Adia Reyna and Michelle Hewett for prepping our end of the school year parade this past Monday. It was so great to see all of you who were able to participate! I hope that you all have a safe, fun, and relaxing summer. As soon as we receive any information on our return to school, it will be sent out in an E-NEWS bulletin. The district will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch at Greene through the end of June. If that changes, please watch the district website as well as E-News. Thank you for your grace, patience, and understanding during this time.

Sincerely,

Lesa Gaffey

Dear Greene Parents,

This week the teachers and I are working at Greene to prepare your child/ren’s belongings for pickup the last week in May. While you will see cars in the parking lot, please know that we are following strict district social distancing guidelines provided to us by our District Nurse and Buildings and Grounds Department. As much as we would love to say HELLO, we are unable to accept any visitors who are non-district employees.

Looking ahead to the last week of May, we would like to share our district approved plan for parent pickup of student belongings. The Pickup Day will begin Tuesday, May 26 between 8am and 12 pm. Each grade level has been designated a 2 hour time slot. Those grade level teachers will be there at that time only. We cannot bring out items if you show up during a different time slot since the teacher won’t be there. Due to our large number of families, we need to stagger pickup times based on grade levels. These are the timeframes:

Tuesday, May 26th

  • 8:00-10:00 AM: Pre Kindergarten and PPCD both AM and PM classes
  • 10:00-12:00 AM: Kindergarten

Wednesday, May 27th

  • 8:00-10:00 AM: 1st grade
  • 10:00-12:00 AM: 2nd grade

Thursday, May 28th

  • 8:00-10:00 AM: 3rd grade
  • 10:00-12:00 AM: 4th grade

Friday, May 29th

  • 8:00-10:00 AM: 5th grade

AA-Magdeleno, Nickell, and Frey-Parents you will pick up items with your child’s specific grade level.

  • When arriving during your timeframe, please follow these guidelines:

1. We ask that parents arrive by car, with windows and doors remaining closed throughout the process.

2. Please make a sign for your right side windshield window with:

  • Your family’s Last Name in BIG, bold, dark lettering,
  • A RED Star if you have any medicine that you need returned by Nurse Ramirez.

3. Cars need to follow these directions to create a Car Line around Greene:

  • Enter the parking lot off of Friendswood Link Road. (our normal dropoff and pickup lot)
  • Wind through the parking lot to the 5th grade door, there will be a caller.

4. The pickup stopping point for cars is the 5th grade doors. A caller will be stationed there.

5. When you arrive at the 5th grade door, please have your trunk open. If your trunk does not automatically open from the inside of your car, then please use proper social distancing to step outside of your car and please be prepared to use gloves to open your trunk. Then, please return to the driver’s seat and proceed with caution.

6. A Greene employee will view the sign in your window, walkie talkie your name and to an employee within the building who will collect your child’s belongings and deliver the bags of belongings to your trunk.

7. There will be no human-to-human contact.

8. If you have any Greene library books to return to the school, please have those ready to go, already in your trunk in a labeled bag (i.e. “Greene Library Books”). This bag will be removed at the next door.

9. Stop at the next marked door to return any literacy books. Please have a bag labeled (Greene Literacy books). These are the take home leveled books. A Greene employee will remove this bag from your trunk.

10. Then pull up to the front door. A Greene employee will put the bag/s of your child’s belongings in your trunk, and close your trunk.

11. Once your trunk is closed, please proceed with caution.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Please remain patient throughout this process and we will do our best to keep the Car Line moving smoothly.
  • If, upon returning home, you find someone else’s belongings mixed in with your child’s, please let your child’s teacher know:  We will do our best to find a solution.
  • We are not able to work in the building at this time so we will not be able to house items that are not picked up next week. Please make arrangements with a neighbor or friend if you absolutely cannot pick up items during your scheduled time. Please let your child’s teacher know if someone else will be picking up the items.

If you have any questions or concerns with this process, please let me know.

Lesa Gaffey, Principal
